Export Courses

- Migrating content to another LMS
- Archiving a course for compliance record-keeping
- Sharing content with a partner or client organization
What Gets Exported#
A course export includes:
- All lesson content (videos, documents, slides, HTML activities)
- Assessment questions and settings
- Course structure (sections and lessons)
- Completion and passing score settings
Enrollment data, learner progress, and scores are not included in the course export file.
Export a Single Course#
- Go to Admin → Courses and find the course.
- Click ⋮ More actions → Export.
- Select the export format:
- SCORM 1.2 — widest compatibility with older LMS platforms
- SCORM 2004 — richer tracking; check your target LMS supports it
- xAPI — most flexible; requires an LRS in the target system
- Click Export. A
.zipfile is generated and downloaded automatically.
Export time depends on course size. Large courses with many video lessons may take a few minutes to package.
Bulk Export#
To export multiple courses at once:
- Go to Admin → Course Management → Export Courses.
- Select the checkboxes next to the courses you want to export.
- Choose the export format.
- Click Export selected.
A separate .zip file is generated per course. When complete, a download link appears in the panel and is also sent to your email.
Export History#
Go to Admin → Course Management → Export Courses to see a history of all exports. Each entry shows:
- Course name
- Export format
- Date initiated
- Status (pending, ready, failed)
- Download link (available for 7 days)
Format Selection Guide#

Limitations#
- Native content only: Courses built directly in SkillStream can be exported. SCORM or xAPI packages that were imported are re-exported in their original format — they are not re-packaged by SkillStream.
- Video encoding: Embedded videos are included as original files. Depending on the target LMS's storage limits, very large video files may cause issues on import.
- Certificates and badges: Not included in the export package. Certificate templates stay in SkillStream.
